| An Illustration: An elementary school was having problems with incidental violence and disrespectful behaviors. After some research and discussion with school staff, it was decided that one of the root causes was lack of self-esteem. Over a period of three weeks Center for Applied Theatre facilitators conducted a series of 90 minute workshops with nearly all the students in the school. During each session, students did perception, communication, and habit breaking exercises. Sessions ended with the creation by the students of one-line plays which illustrated how young people act act and react in potentially violent situations. After each play participants discussed possible reactions to the situations and consequences of each choice. |
